The New Leaf

From time to time, the Makati Garden Club is visited by nursery school children to learn about the environment. Last October 18, Friday, the Garden Club was visited by 20 little nursery tots, from the Cambridge Poblacion-Makati Nursery School, part of the Singapore International School. The children arrived in their cute green & yellow uniforms, along with some parents and teachers, to view our gardens and learn about plants and gardening. Each child was given a pair of plastic gloves to help in the planting. MGC’s head gardener, Joel, assisted the children in planting the heliconias in one part of the garden. Then they were taught how to plant tiny succulents in pots. After patting the soil and setting the succulent, the child was allowed to take it home, with instructions on how to care for these hardy plants. The succulents were donated by Lolita Pacio, a member of the Club. Grace Belmonte, the club’s secretary and flower arranger, oversaw the plantings of both heliconias and succulents. The children had a lovely time wandering around, looking at the tiny goldfish in the pond and using the swing. Makati Garden Club was given a certificate of appreciation from the school. Everyone had a wonderful time.

Wed 11 Dec 6pmTHE SCIENCE OF HEARTBREAK – a session on taking a summary of our hearts at year’s end. What goes on in the brain when we get heartbroken. What breaks and what rebuilds our hearts. And perhaps take stock on how we have managed our selves so far.

Wed 8 Jan 6pmFRESH PAGE REBOOT – a session on tiny things to think of and take on as we start this new calendar year. This session will focus on basics on how the brain takes in a new year, our relationship with our own patterns, how we work on resolutions, and whether or not we believe in luck.

All Souls’ Day reminds us that death is not the end, but a transition to a higher realm. May our dear departed find eternal peace and happiness. Although the souls we’ve lost may be gone, they are never forgotten.

In loving memory of those we’ve lost, we light these candles that their souls continue to inspire us with their love and memories.
